Your Health at Your Library

Your Healthatyour libraryOver one third of your neighbors, family, and friends, most likely rely on computers and Internet access at the Darby Community Public Library for everyday and just in time health and wellness advice. They are looking to find ways to become more active, find doctors, research a family member’s illness, locate health care insurance, or track down discount medications. The library is an important component of our health system.

In fact, “Opportunity for All,” a study funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and published by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, found that meeting health and wellness needs was one of the most frequently reported uses of public access technology, with 37 percent of users reporting having looked for health information, treatment options, caregivers, or ways to improve their health; 56 percent of these users also reported seeking out these types of information for relatives, friends, colleagues, and others. In order to continue to provide this critical access for everyone in Darby, we need YOUR help!

There will be a ballot measure on the September 15, 2015 ballot, asking voters if they support a 3-mill increase for library funding. This will provide about 1/3 of our annual budget and we need your help to secure the next generation of library services.

Vote YES for Darby Community Public Library!
